200/300 Yard National Championship

Bluegrass Sportsmen's League

Wilmore, Kentucky
23-24 July , 2011

Grand Aggregate winners Dean Breeden and Dave Thomas.

It was a hot !! and humid weekend in Kentucky when 43 shooters from as far away as Maine gathered at the Bluegrass Sportsmens League in central Kentucky for the 17th annual 200/300 Score Nationals. Mirage, horrible at times and relatively tricky winds kept most of us totally befuddled for two days. The only person there who seemed to have a really solid grasp on the conditions was Dean Breeden who won both yardages and the Grand in both VFS and Hunter Class . He did at least leave winning Varmint Hunter class to Dave Thomas.

The Bluegrass Sportsmen put on an excellent event , well run and right on schedule both days Mike Niblett had all his people doing the right things at the right times. The target crew was excellent. I do not believe there were any improperly hung targets all weekend which is frequently a problem with full rotation matches and if there were any crossfire's I never heard of them. The range officer John Beauchamp did an excellent job of running the line. The Scoring/States crew headed up by Ruth Carleton was punctual and accurate and Ruth e-mailed me results very fast each evening. My hat is off to Mike and his crew who I cajoled into accepting this task in the first place over the last 6 or so months. I look forward to returning to Bluegrass for another Nationals event sometime (but not in July or August)
