Michelle Sutton Memorial Charity Classic II

South Creek Northern Tier Sportsmen Club
June 20-21, 2009

Thirty Seven IBS members converged on the South Creek Northern Tier Sportsmen Club grounds on June 20 and 21 2009 for the Michele Sutton Memorial Charity Classic II. The weather for the weekend proved to be rather “damp”. We experienced about 1.9 inches or more of rainfall on Saturday during the 100 yard events. It did not seem that spirits were dampened as all of the competitors trudged back and forth in rain and mud. Joel Nader led the Light Varmint competition with a .2232 aggregate and he was followed by Robert Truss (.2260) and Ned Hosey (.2494). Rookie winner was Joe Petrikonis with 11th place and a .3130 aggregate. Heavy Varmint 100 yards saw the heaviest rainfall and Gary Amatrudo took the lead with a good margin with a .2214 aggregate. He was followed by Bob Brushingham (.2356) and Robert Kenderdine (.2386). Joe Petrikonis also won the Rookie honors with an 11th place finish (.2832). The rains stopped so that the competitors could get the flags rotated and ready for Sunday’s 200 yard stage. Sunday morning was overcast and looked calm, but alas all the water in the ground must have had some effect as the groups on the warm-up match HV200 were not small. Joel Nader once again commandeered the lead in this class with a .2334 aggregate. He was followed by Mark Trutt (.2348) and Skip Derock (.2440). the rookie HV200 winner was Donna Bizzell (.3707) shooting the pink Cancer Rifle that was raffled off in 2008. Joel won the grand aggregate with a .2538 and he was closely followed by Mark Trutt (.2571), Robert Kenderdine (.2576), Skip Derock (.2587) and Gary Amatrudo (.2616). Donna Bizzell won the HV Grand rookie with an 18th place overall finish. The winds picked up for the afternoon and Skip Derock took the lead with a .2652. He was followed by Daniel Shelhammer (.2689) and Jack Sutton (.2861). John Miller took the first place LV200 rookie with a 9th place finish (.3592). Joel Nader captured the grand aggregate with a .2715. He was followed by Dan Shelhammer (.2838), Bob Brushingham (.2913), Jack Sutton (.3073) and Skip Derock (.3118). John Miller was first place Rookie in the grand with a 10th place overall finish (.3517). The two gun winner was no surprise with Joel Nader winning both the LV and HV grand aggregates. He posted a .2627 to take a considerable lead for the win. Skip Derock followed in second (.2853), Jack Sutton was third with (.2886), Bob Brushingham finished fourth (.2920) and fifth was Robert Kenderdine with a .2947. John Miller took first place rookie with a 13th place finish (.3624). $2501.50 was raised for the Cancer Society at the shoot. The SCNT also runs unregistered winter matches and additional $780.60 was collected there bringing the total Cancer Society donations to $3282.10 for SCNT for 2009. The Michelle Sutton Memorial Charity Classics are run by a group of Michelle Sutton’s friends and we appreciate those that turn out to commemorate her memory and to make a donation to the cancer society in her memory. The Trophies for the shoot once again this year were done with a photograph mounted on them. An American Bald Eagle soaring in a blue sky was mounted on the trophies to honor Michelle’s admiration of Eagles and the song “On Eagle’s Wings”. Paul Ryan sponsored the 2 Gun First Place, First Place HV Grand, First Place LV Grand Trophies and Paul Burns sponsored the Two Gun second place, HV Grand second place, LV Grand second place and the first place HV 100 Trophies. Jim and Joan Borden donated the Eagle prints. Jacklin Derock made a special quilt in memory of Michelle and to be used to generate funds for the cancer society. The quilt will be raffled off at the IBS Nationals Championship[s in August. All proceeds from the raffle will go to the ACS.
